湯姆訪華

鄰居湯姆近花甲，舊日營(yíng)生養(yǎng)蟹蝦。
未到外州謀職業(yè)，豈知鄉(xiāng)里這般差。
只因生性太羞澀，不敢遠(yuǎn)方看彩霞。
舉止溫文心眼好，多多怪念若呆瓜。
聞知吾乃中華客，歡快攀談臉綻花。
一本舊書胡亂道，中華男女忒嘆嗟：
男兒扎辮女纏足，夫友抵家妻奉茶。
作揖打躬蓮步走，磕頭祭祖敬仙家。
聽完湯姆荒唐語(yǔ)，驚詫之余開導(dǎo)他：
黃歷百年煙雨過，滿清陋習(xí)是沉渣。
桑田滄海神州變，華夏昌榮堪自夸。
若說世間有兩強(qiáng)，一為米國(guó)一中華。
若要目睹新奇事，吾愿攜君作考查。
湯姆聞言頻點(diǎn)首，銀燕東赴白云斜。
湯兄到達(dá)浦東地，觀景車行口結(jié)巴。
不息車流路交匯，高樓商廈密如麻。
路邊行者擦肩踵，手機(jī)微信鬧嚌喳。
女子時(shí)髦漢瀟灑，廣場(chǎng)大嫂舞喧嘩。
大街小巷多商戶，物品琳瑯貨架遮。
買賣公平情暢順，日常貨品不求奢。
仙弦輕舞催人醉，處處笙歌韻可嘉。
不夜魔都美如畫，堂堂都市譽(yù)天涯。
此行滬上不虛度，湯姆并非井底蛙。
泱泱中華如旭日，更新萬(wàn)象玉無(wú)瑕。
湯兄目睹大聲贊，不絕滔滔如噪鴉。
湯姆歡欣不知累，此君可愛一奇葩。
An American’s China Trip

My neighbor Tom is a nice guy,
Warm-hearted and a little bit shy.
Born in a rural area in the USA,
Before he moved out from his county,
He worked as a fisherman locally.
He had no chance to travel overseas via air-way..
His mind is full of imagination and curiosity.
Being my next door neighbor in New Jersey,
Friendly to me and to my family.
Knowing I come from China, the “Dragon State”,
He seemed to be interested in talking to me anxiously:
“One old book told me”, he said:
“How the Chinese looked strangely.
Men with pigtails while women still in feudalist society,
When husband’s friends arrived for a visit,
Wife must offer guests’ tea as a courtesy.
And then she must disappear immediately.
No rights to join the men for conversation.
When the festival concerned came,
Incense-burning for ancestor-worshiping sincerely.”
Upon hearing what Tom said,
I was shocked,
And then gave him a serious reply:
“What you described about China is out of date.
Something a hundred years ago in the Qing Dynasty.
China has now developed rapidly,
As advanced as the USA.
Seeing is believing,
I suggest you to visit China right away.”
After hearing what I remarked,
Tom nodded his head and said ok.
I accompanied him to Shanghai by plane..
When he stepped on the soil of this metropolitan city,
Couldn’t believe his eyes and was surprised entirely:
Main roads are as fantastic as New York’s Broadway,
Magnificent buildings stand up magically.
Numerous pedestrians show themselves confidently.
With cell-phone calls or WeChat contacs busily.
Shops and markets could be seen on the way.
Various of products provided sufficiently.
Sellers and buyers talked and bargained amicably.
Popular songs or beautiful music sounded charmingly.
Boys and girls addressed fashionably .
People seemed to be pleased and healthy.
What a prospect and advanced city, Shanghai!
Asking Tom what he would like to say.
He answered excitedly:
” Before I came to China for such a journey,
My thinking towards your Chinese was crazy.
China is like a noonday sun shining in the sky.
When I go back to my country,,
Will tell my people,
How China is displaying its prosperity”!
Seeing Tom was so happy,
I suddenly felt this old American was so lovely!.
