Staying Up For The New Year

At sunset my palace looks fine and fair,
For, to its beauty, Age has showed her care.
As the snow melts away, it's cold no more,
While the vernal breeze warms each of my pores.
The air is perfumed by plums overhead;
The candle light tints the offerings red.
What a nice eve to spend with all of you—
Ringing out the old 'nd ringing in the new!

Seeing the Year Out

The setting sun lends an air of majesty to the grand palace,
All the glorious years make it look more 'n more gorgeous.
Snow begins melting as the dead of winter gone,
Spring with the warm breeze is ready to come.
Elegant white wintersweets are abloom with scent round each stair,
Burning red candles arranged in a flower shape are here and there.
Ring out the old! we stay up all night for celebration,
Ring in the new! the whole nation is in great elation.

The passing ages have made it a more picturesque site.
When snow is disappearing, a warmer season is due;
The pleasant spring breezes bring us so much delight.
The plum blossoms are scented with a pure white hue;
Various offerings are placed, with the red candles burning bright.
Together we celebrate the intersection of the old and the new;
Adieus and greetings are uttered on the same night.
唐太宗李世民，是唐朝第二位皇帝，漢族，隴西成紀(jì)人，祖籍趙郡隆慶(今邢臺(tái)市隆堯縣)，政治家、軍事家、書(shū)法家、詩(shī)人。他是中國(guó)史上最出名的政治家與明君之一。唐太宗開(kāi)創(chuàng)了歷史上的“貞觀之治”。他為后來(lái)全盛的開(kāi)元盛世奠定了重要的基礎(chǔ)，將中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)農(nóng)業(yè)社會(huì)推向鼎盛時(shí)期。
