Alone I stand in autumn chill；
Seeing Xiang River flow north still，
I look far at Orange Isle Head.
Behold! Thousands of Hills are all in red;
O'erlapping woods are in nice scene.
All over the river's so green;
Hundreds of ships are racing there.
Far and wide eagles cleave the air;
Fish swim up 'nd down in river clear:
All creatures under frosty skies vie to be freer.
Sad in so boundless land,
I wonder in this world so vast and dim
Who governs ups and down in swim.
With many friends I oft came here.
I recall the past clear
How thick th' so many an eventful year!
Then, we students were in prime of our age,
Our spirit bright was at its height,
Full of the scholar's noble rage,
We criticized with all our might.
Pointing to the river and hill
Writing essays in blame or praise,
We treat'd like dirt all mighty lords of olden days.
Do you remember still,
In the mid-stream, we struck waves to play
Waves’d near stop fast boats on their way！
