Hua Li/ Leanne

That Sunshine
Hua Li/ Leanne Li
Outside the red bus,
sunlight dances with golden ribbons,
Green hums with the bees’ clear music.
In this moment, I try to close my eyes, draw a deep breath —
As there, within, is your smile, like the fragrant yellow rose
blooming your grace upon my heart.
Your elegant bow of the head, that noble, towering calm, is my favorite blue,
pure as the thousand-foot waterfall, while your steadfast gaze
burns with May’s warm blaze, fierce and brimming with life.
Ah! Though I wander a thousand miles away,
my heart can never drift from your sky of blue.
In the clamoring crowd,
music becomes life’s own voice,
and all it echoes is the hush of your whispers.
How I wish to borrow that ripple,
let your laughter
ring in my world, once, twice, not enough —
I want to see your smile, your happiness immediately
and my soul’s little boat sets sail.
I long to sprout wings,
only to soar to the clouds,
to behold your sky,
where silent whispers
roar like waves,
the world’s most beautiful painting.
Yet here I stand,
frozen, afraid to break the majesty of your powerful presence.
So I walk gently, amid the noisy streets.
If the red bus rolls slowly past, and I can feel your joy, that will be enough.
Otherwise, how can I in return
How can appreciate your perfect blue,
the blue that belongs only to me.
So I close my eyes running, running, running…
Until get a chapter of poetry to echo that blue!
