The August 1st Military Flag Forever Flies
—To Those Who March Beneath the Flag
By Hometown's Passion for the Soil
From the spark that burst above Nanchang's walls
Cut a swathe of dawn's red
Stitch in the lingering warmth of gun barrels, forge into the five-pointed
Ninety-eight years of wind and rain tempering
Let starlight, between blood and iron
Solidify into an ever-fading totem
Each stitch, a footprint of straw sandals
Piercing frozen earth on Minshan's snowline
Each thread, linked to Luding Bridge's iron chains
In cold nights, thirteen chains still burn with uncooled blood
This flag has witnessed:
Names swept away by Xiang River's blood waves, reborn in its tassels
The ice sculptures of Changjin Lake, in charging stance
Welding minus forty degrees into an eternal bugle call
Now it flutters on Liaoning's wave crests
Conversing with the deep blue, writing poems with electromagnetic catapult trajectories
Floating by Tiangong's porthole
Letting Beidou's coordinates and the Milky Way's orbits
Collide in vacuum to spark
A metallic resonance
When wind unfurls the flag
From its folds簌簌 fall:
Contour lines of camouflage uniforms stacked on dykes
Life's archways propped by hand bones in quake zones
And a handful of soil with shrapnel from nameless heights
—All silent warps and wefts
Each dawn
Hold high the words "the people"
Above the sun's rising height
