Stepping into the intangible cultural heritage exhibition area of the museum, the art of kesi embroidery quietly unfolds the aesthetics of the East. Craftsmen hold wooden shuttles and use the “warp - through and weft - cutting” method to transform silk threads into delicate patterns through the interweaving of warps and wefts. Stitch by stitch, it seems to be recreating time—flowers, birds, insects, and grass come to life, and landscapes and pavilions are clearly layered, permanently freezing the gentleness and poetry of Jiangnan on the fabric. This is not just weaving, but a cultural long scroll written with silk threads. Every inch of kesi embroidery is filled with the persistence of intangible cultural heritage inheritors, allowing the thousand - year - old technique to regain its brilliance in the contemporary era.
In the ceramic production workshop, the painting process is the moment to give the ware a soul. Painters take porcelain as paper, dip into mineral pigments, and as the brush tip moves, they either paint vivid folk custom pictures in strong colors or outline fresh and elegant literati landscapes. From the profound blue - and - white to the gorgeous famille rose, every touch of color follows ancient methods and incorporates modern aesthetics. Watching the plain white porcelain blank gradually being decorated into an artistic masterpiece, it is like witnessing the seamless connection between life and art. Intangible cultural heritage painting gives daily utensils the power to convey emotions and aesthetics.
In the production area of Lumu clay pots, there is a moist earthy smell. The craftsman rubs the clay with both hands, controls the strength and shape with experience, and shapes the ordinary clay into a simple - shaped clay pot. These clay pots seem ordinary, but they actually hide acoustic mysteries—when used to raise crickets, the unique clay texture and shape design can amplify the chirping of insects, giving the ancient cricket - fighting culture an exclusive “sound system”. From selecting clay, making blanks to firing, every step follows the inheritance. Lumu clay pots, with their practical posture, carry the Suzhou people’s love and perseverance for folk culture.
In the zodiac seal blank experience area, it is full of fun and warmth. Visitors can personally take a ball of clay and, with the cooperation of molds and ingenuity, press out an exclusive zodiac shape. The fingertips touch the softness of the clay blank, feel the shape change during the force transmission, and integrate the understanding of zodiac culture into this small clay seal. The completed seal blanks are either naive or lively, which are not only the popular expression of intangible cultural heritage techniques, but also allow everyone to become the creator of traditional culture and bring home the zodiac meanings and handicraft fun.
The small golden brick production workshop is a microcosm of the imperial kiln golden brick culture. Participants start from kneading the clay, feel the delicacy of the clay in the palm, learn how to make the clay ball bear force evenly, and gradually shape it into the shape of a golden brick. Although the size is reduced, the process is not simplified—beating, forming, trimming, each step reproduces the ancient method techniques of imperial kiln golden bricks. When the small golden brick made by hand dries, it is like holding a fragment of history. This is not only an experience of intangible cultural heritage, but also inheriting the spirit of “meticulous work and pursuit of perfection” behind the golden bricks with both hands, allowing the imperial kiln culture to continue in a small and profound way.
Walking in the Imperial Kiln Golden Brick Museum, from the ruins of the ancient kiln site, one can glimpse the prosperity of the former imperial kiln—craftsmen shuttled, the kiln fire never went out, and the golden bricks transformed from clay into imperial court treasures. In the exhibition hall, the golden bricks of past dynasties are neatly displayed. Their warm texture and square shape tell the majesty and mission of “Jing bricks (imperial bricks)”. The modern exhibition area combines intangible cultural heritage experience with cultural popularization, allowing visitors to participate in the current inheritance of intangible cultural heritage while touching history. Every step of the visit is a dialogue across time and space, understanding that intangible cultural heritage is not only a technique, but also a vivid presentation of the thousand - year - old cultural context of Suzhou City.
