Album Introduction

Based on the ten Erhu pieces by Mr. Liu Tianhua, Zhang Yongyin's superb performance and contemporary temperament, it conveyed the cultural heritage and distinct charm of China Erhu music.
Liu Tianhua is a pioneer in the recreate and reform of modern China national music. His idea of optimizing national music has salvaged and revitalized the then endangered China national music. The musical works he composed blend China and Western elements and have unique musical styles and ideological connotations. Up to now, the direction of China national music development opened up by Liu Tianhua has always influenced the China national music practitioners.
The composition of this album run through the whole life of Mr. Liu Tianhua. The ten erhu pieces brewed at different stages of his life are precisely the practice of his musical ideas and creative thoughts In terms of musical style, these ten erhu pieces can roughly be divided into three categories: his worry and indignation with reality, his refined interest of literati with nature, and his passion and striving with struggle. Through these works, the audience can feel the various attempt made by Mr. Liu Tianhua in the complex and turbulent early 20 century Chinese society to improve and exploit national music, and can also appreciate the unique melody of Chinese erhu during this period.
During the recording process musician Zhang Yongyin specially chose an old Erhu with a history of more than eighty years. which just coincides with the historical period in which Mr. Liu Tianhua's works are located. In order to restore Mr. Liu Tianhua's musical works to the greatest extent, Zhang Yongyin did not deliberately preset the techniques for these ten works during the performance but looking for the improvisational expression from the existing musical scores. This way of interpretation not only shows Zhang Yongyin's deep understanding and superb skills of these works, but also allows the audience to feel the charm and depth of Mr. Liu Tianhua's musical works more truly.
The whole recording process of this album is full of challenges. Through her own efforts and talent, Zhang Yongyin successfully presents Mr. Liu Tianhua's musical works in front of the audience. This album is not only a new-era interpretation of Mr. Liu Tianhua's musical works, but also a tribute and inheritance to traditional Chinese music. Through this album, the audience can approach the essence of traditional China music more closely and can also feel how contemporary Chinese musicians inherit and carry forward the mission and great vision of national musicians represented by Liu Tianhua for the improvement and exploration of the China national music.
