Spring on the Other Shore
By Mo Mo Ren (Guizhou)
Tr. Huan Shi (Liaoning)
We linger between Lesser Cold, Greater Cold
on the calendar,
in snowfall after snowfall—
huddled by the stove, reminiscing, brewing tea, reading.
Sun erased by clouds,
wind plays the xun like ragged cloth.
Within reach, spring quickens on the other shore—
peach, apricot, and green rapeseed
gathering energy, preparing for the stage.
I hear housebound bees humming "Spring Scenery,"
as if scenting magnetic pollen,
seeing ethereal gold spread wave-crested to the horizon.
Neighboring spring is a secret stirring,
like a conductor raising a carbon-fiber baton,
waiting for that moment when strings and winds erupt,
all things merging into sunshine-drenched fragrance.
