One entered the sea, the sunlight, and the cell.
The other sank into rock, sand, and mineral veins.
Carbon learned to breathe,
Writing time with blood and warmth—
Slow sentences, three billion years long,
Revised again and again between proteins and nerves.
Silicon remained silent,
Waiting deep within the Earth,
Like a piece of code not yet run,
Lying on the cosmos's hard drive.

Until one day,
Carbon-based life learned to think.
Neurons ignited flames,
And for the first time, thought reflected the stars.
Between fire and metal,
Humankind awakened silicon.
From sand to wafer,
From wafer to chip,
Electrons race through the lattice,
